Signing Up and Signing In

Last updated: April 3, 2023

The first time you open Libby, you will be asked if you have a library card. If you don’t, visit your library’s branch or website to get one. Ensure that they use Libby, as not every library does. Once you have your card from a participating library, double-tap “Yes.”

On the next screen, you select how to locate your library. If you’ve previously used Libby on another device, the “Copy From Another Device” option is a quick and easy way to copy your information to your iOS Device. Otherwise, whether you choose “Search for a Library” or “Guess My Library” is up to personal preference. However, searching will be more efficient if your library is a considerable distance from where you currently are. Once you select “Search for a Library” and type into the search field or select “Guess My Library,” double-tap on the button corresponding to the library where you have a card.

On the next screen, double-tap “Sign In With My Card.” Depending on your library, the next screen might require selecting your branch. Explore the screen until you find the correct one and double-tap. If there are a large number of branches, you may have to double-tap the button labelled with a number and the word more, for example, “39 More.”

Finally, you will enter your library card number in the text field and double-tap the “Sign In” button. While library cards usually have a PIN for security, Libby has never asked for it. This may or may not vary based on the library. If it asks you for a PIN, you should be able to enter it like you would normally in the pin edit field.

You should now be signed in and ready to start finding some books!
