The BC Libraries Cooperative (BCLC) is a mission-driven non-profit cooperative that helps libraries help people.
Our 200+ members include public and post-secondary libraries and institutions across Canada. We provide libraries and related organizations with the services, cost savings, and support they need to do great work in their communities. We provide several online services for our members which include a focus on using open-source technology and systems, as well as expanding work in the field of accessible publishing that supports people in Canada with print disabilities.

About the Role
The BCLC houses the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS) which is a digital library of books in accessible formats for readers with print disabilities. When people request books that do not yet exist in accessible formats, our job is to produce them. NNELS is funded by 8 provincial and territorial governments, as well as the federal government. The BC Libraries Cooperative (Co-op) seeks one full-time Audiobook Coordinator to help with audiobook production and coordination for NNELS. The anticipated start date is March 2025 with an end date of March 31, 2027.
Reporting to the Grant Manager and working under the direction and supervision of the NNELS Content Coordinator, the Audiobook Coordinator will assist directly with managing narrator relationships, overseeing and performing post-production tasks, handling contracts and invoices, tracking progress, and ensuring accessible production standards are met.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate audiobook production for the selection of titles from start to finish by verifying if they already exist as per the Copyright Act requirements, publish the titles in the NNELS repository, and ensuring the right narrators are matched with content and deadlines are met, especially for patron requests.
- Keep track of and report on all project deliverables
- Manage relationships with narrators, recruit new talent, handle contracts and invoices, and keep track of the budget
- Supervise two audio assistants, delegating tasks and managing workflows for efficient production.
- Oversee and handle post-production tasks, including editing, quality control, and basic audio adjustments for clarity and consistency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including delays or challenges with narrators.
- Use Eleven Labs and/or similar software to produce AI-narrated audiobooks and ensure high-quality output.
- Keep documentation updated in our Wiki page and SharePoint site, and track production progress using the RT system (training provided).
- Continuously improve audiobook production processes by staying up to date with advancements in accessible audiobook production, including accessibility standards, best practices, formats, and technologies.
Competencies and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, Media Production, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in audiobook production, audio editing, or related fields.
- Familiarity with audio post-production-production tools and processes (e.g., editing, quality control).
- Knowledge of audiobook accessibility standards and best practices.
- Strong organizational skills, with experience managing timelines and coordinating multiple projects.
- Ability to manage and maintain relationships with narrators and production staff, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong budget management skills, including handling contracts, invoices, and ensuring accurate tracking and allocation of audiobook production funds.
- Comfortable learning and using new technologies.
Contract Terms
- Work location: remote (home based).
- This is a full-time, long-term contract with an anticipated start date of March 2025, and an end date of March 31, 2027.
- Contract will be for 35 hours per week.
- Rate: $38.50 per hour.
- There will be a 3-month probationary period for this role starting on the first date of employment.
- Position includes paid vacation and sick time.
- This position is grant funded.
Must provide own internet and computer. The Co-op operates as a "bring your own device" (BYOD) environment, requiring contractors and employees to supply and maintain their own suitable equipment.
