Just a few miles north of Nelson, a settlement of predominantly British farmers was established after the turn of the century. It was in this district that Reginald Dawson- encouraged by his family, the local real estate agents, and his own vision of a genteel life- purchased forty acres in 1906. As his memoir shows, the realities of pioneer life were not at all as Dawson expected.
