We’re thrilled to announce approximately 1,800 newly published titles from Crane Library at UBC. We received this batch of books in January, and after doing what we needed to do, we’re pleased to release the 1,300 MP3 files in live narration, and the 500 titles in e-text. We began working with Crane last year to exchange content, and now we can offer readers a huge variety of both academic and general content to add to what we already have in our sizeable collection.
Crane Library houses accessible format material for UBC students, faculty, and staff who require an alternative to print. The library was established in 1968 following a gift of braille books from the late Charles Allen Crane, a deaf-blind student who attended UBC in the 1930s. You can read more about Crane Library here and the founder, Charles Crane, here.
In addition to these exchanged titles, volunteer readers at Crane Library are also recording books for NNELS. Since February of this year, they have recorded 53 titles, including many of the upcoming BC and TD Summer Reading Club titles.
You can find many (though not all) of the Crane titles by searching the word “Crane” in the NNELS repository.
