From the time she was young, Hayley Wickenheiser was a stand out on the rink. There weren't any teams for girls, so she played on boys' teams. She earned a spot on Alberta's under 18 team when she was only 12 and joined the Canadian Women's team when she was just 15. Hayley went on to lead the Canadian women to four gold and one silver Olympic medals and was named the Olympic tournaments' MVP in both 2002 and 2006. For the 2014 Sochi Olympics Hayley was selected to be the flag bearer for the Canadian Olympic team. She had a long, standout career, also playing for a men's professional league in Finland. Since retiring in 2012 Hayley has devoted her efforts to growing her annual hockey festival, where she's continued to inspire a love of sport and dedication to skill for thousands of female hockey players from all over Canada and the world.
