Della Ward, a widow, lives alone on her dilapidated farm near a small Texa town. She is filled with guilt about a hateful letter she sent her husband just before he died fighting in the war. When lawman James Cameron arrives at her home, Della learns that he was with her husband when he died. After Cameron answers some of her questions, Della's not sure she wants to know the truth about her husband after all.
