December 3rd is International Day for People with Disabilities.
The theme this year is "Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world”. Since 1992, the United Nations has recognised December 3rd as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) The goal of this day is to promote an understanding of disability issues and foster support for the well-being, dignity, and rights of persons with disabilities.

As part of International Day for People with Disabilities Neil Squire and Makers Making Change are aiming to set an #ATWorldRecord on the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities to raise awareness of the need for affordable assistive technology solutions for people with disabilities. On December 3rd, they are inviting people around the world to take part in a virtual do it yourself (DIY) assistive technology lesson to attempt to claim the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the most users to take an online DIY assistive technology lesson in 24 hours. Breaking Barriers Alliance For the Equality of Blind Canadians will host a virtual conference on December 4 to increase awareness of invisible disabilities and focus on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health.This virtual conference will be accessible to all and will feature ASL interpreters and real time live captioning. You will hear from diverse speakers with lived experience with disability share their stories and experiences. The speakers will have a fireside chat about why it is so awkward to talk about invisible disabilities.
