Accessible Metadata at NNELS

Monday, July 12, 2021

We are excited to announce that we have created accessible metadata for our repository. This is part of our ongoing efforts to improve our catalogue for our readers.

The goal of this accessible metadata is to give readers more data so they can search by accessibility features to make it easier to discover the files that will work for their needs within the NNELS collection.

Our new metadata is applicable to the file formats you find in our catalogue, which include:

  • EPUB
  • DAISY Text
  • DAISY Audio
  • MP3
  • PDF
  • Doc

Accessibility metadata is part of MARC, ONIX and EPUB. Publishers should be including this info in their metadata. We are the first organization to display accessibility features that are user-friendly and searchable. All our new publications will include accessible metadata, and we are currently working on remediation for the rest of the files in our catalogue.
