Partnering with NNELS for Ebook Accessibility (2023-2024)

We want to hear from Canadian publishers who are interested in partnering with us to work toward ebook accessibility. Whether we have worked with you before, or this is your first time hearing about NNELS, we would love to hear from you! Publishers of any size are welcome to sign up.

For this project, we will partner our accessibility advisors with publishers. We will provide accessibilty assessments and evaluations of EPUBs (one or two books, new or old), and re-evaluate files that are revised based on this assessment. We can also provide feedback on specific questions, if you don't want an entire book evaluated - like, feedback on image descriptions, table formatting, etc.

Publishers will learn how to make better ebooks, and we will learn a little bit about your publishing workflow! This will allow us to develop and refine our recommendations for publishers, and improve the accessible publishing landscape in Canada. The books you select from this project may be from your backlist, or forthcoming titles that you will have time to submit and revise ahead of publication.

Publishers who wish to be a part of this project should be open to modifying their workflow in order to make their books more accessible.

If you have never made an EPUB, you are still welcome to apply for the project, as long as you are open to creating an EPUB with a team of accessibility experts on your side!

If you have any questions, please email our Accessible Publishing & Resources Coordinator, Leah Brochu, at info@accessiblepublishing.ca.

We are open to all genres, from full-text novels, to illustrated children's picture books, to poetry, to academic texts with charts and graphs. Please indicate the type of books you would like us to work on with you in the application.
