Most search and rescue (SAR) dog units do not have a professional dog trainer or behavior consultant to help handlers train their dogs for SAR. Often training methods are handed down from one person to the next and do not work with all dogs. K9 Search and Rescue Troubleshooting addresses the training problems that SAR dog handlers face when training their dogs. Many of the problems are caused by handler error and/or issues that may have occurred in the developmental stages of the dog. K9 Search and Rescue Troubleshooting offers insights on how to solve these problems by explaining canine developmental stages and how they affect the dog's ability to learn and function. The book addresses, in general, how dogs learn, including the latest research about their observational abilities and how these abilities affect the dog's performance. The book also addresses common handler errors and how to find and select the right dog for SAR work.
