Between 1907 and 1908, three small children died in Perth, Western Australia. It was claimed that their stepmother, Martha Rendell, murdered them. Public opinion, inflamed by horrific descriptions of how the children were poisoned, demanded that she be executed. After Martha Rendell was convicted of the murder of one of the children (Arthur Morris), she was hanged on 6 October 1909: the last woman to be executed in Western Australia.
