Canadian author Amanda Leduc's newest book, Wild Life, will be published in all accessible and conventional formats simultaneously! This marks the third simultaneous release of Amanda’s books in accessible formats, ensuring readers with print disabilities across Canada can enjoy her wonderful stories.
“Storytelling is such a crucial human need. Sometimes it draws us out of our daily lives and transports us. Sometimes it deepens our empathy and understanding of what is going on in our own lives and all around us. Amanda Leduc’s WILD LIFE is that rare novel that does both; how perfect that it will be immediately available to all readers however they read. That’s really important to Amanda, and to her publisher.” Anne Collins, Executive Editor, Penguin Random House Canada, Vice-president, Penguin Random House Canada.
This is made possible through a unique collaboration between the author, Penguin Random House Canada, and two of Canada's accessible library services: the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS) and the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA).
“The simultaneous release of Wild Life by Amanda Leduc in all accessible and conventional formats is excellent news for readers with print disabilities in Canada as everyone will be able to read it, regardless of ability, as soon as it is published. This project, driven by Amanda and the wonderful Penguin Random House Canada team, shows that accessibility can be incorporated from the outset. This is also a testament to the great things that can happen when authors, publishers and accessibility experts like NNELS and CELA collaborate towards the goal of born-accessible publishing." - Daniella Levy-Pinto, Manager of the National Network for Equitable Library Service.
Typically, books are published in conventional formats first and then converted to accessible formats, which delays the date of publication and the time when the estimated 12.5% of individuals with print disabilities in Canada can read them.
It is available at NNELS in EPUB, MP3, DAISY Audio, BRF, and hardcopy braille formats. As with all of NNELS' hardcopy braille, the physical braille is available in person at Western Manitoba Regional Library in Brandon, MB, or through interlibrary loan at your local public library.
Penguin Random House Canada will release Wild Life by Amanda Leduc on March 11th, 2025!
