Accessible Publishing Workshop Registration 2018

These 3-hour workshops are intended for people who know (or want to know!) some HTML and can navigate some of the inner workings of an EPUB file. If you don't have a laptop, text editor, or coding skills, but are interested in the subject, please feel welcome to register and attend anyway!

We have invited Laura Brady to demonstrate how code problems can trip up assistive technology, and how to clean an ebook's markup while also giving hands-on comparisons of what works seamlessly and what gets snagged in various environments. Laura is an ebook developer, the principal of Brady Type, and the editor-in-chief of EPUB Secrets. She consults on workflow, tools, specifications, and production best practices.

Audience: ebook production staff, or other interested people such as consultants, alternate-format producers, editors, writers, librarians, and publishing students.

Cost: free!

The Toronto workshop is brought to you thanks to Alternative Educational Resources Ontario (AERO) and support from the Government of Canada's Social Development Partnerships Program - Disability Component.

Deadline for registration: Friday March 9th at 5:00 pm Pacific

Plan to bring:

  • a laptop with an EPUB file;
  • a text editor you can used to work on an EPUB file;
  • (if possible) install the ACE Accessibility Checker and play with it a bit to understand how it works.
