Searching for and Borrowing Books using iOS Voice Control

Last updated: March 5, 2024

  1. To search for books, select the “Search” field just below the words “Search the NNELS Collection. When using “Show names”, say “Tap Search”, or if using “Show numbers”, say the number next to the search field.
  2. Speaking clearly and slowly, say your search term (book name, author, subject, etc.)
  3. Say “Tap Search” or the number next to the “Search” button. You should now see fields for “Request a Title” and “Filters”.  If you do not need to request a title or add filters to your search, go to step 5.
  4. If you want to add a filter to limit your results to EPUB books, under “Filter by Format”, say the number next to the format type you want to narrow your search to or Say, “Tap and the format name, for example, “Tap EPUB 2”. You can repeat this step if you want to select more than one format, for example, if you also want to search for EPUB 3.
  5. Say “Scroll down” to move down the page to the “Search Results”.  You can now select any of the items on the screen. One exception is “Add to Bookshelf”.  For some reason, no name or number is assigned to that option. If you say “Tap” (the name) or the number next to a specific book title you want to read, you will be taken to a page with all the details about that specific book, and you will find a labelled “Add to Bookshelf” button there.
