Setting up Voice Control on your iOS Devices

Last updated: March 5, 2024

Before you get started, we note:

  • You must have iOS 13 or later to use Voice Control.
  • When using “numbers” to navigate, the actual item numbers displayed are not named in this tutorial because these numbers will change when using different devices and with changing page layouts.
  • The command “Show item names” did result in all the item names being displayed on the screen; however, using the voice command (Tap, “item name”) did not seem to work as consistently as using numbers.  If you experience this problem, using the numbers command is best.

Installing Voice Control

  1. Tap on “Settings’ from your “Home” screen.
  2. Tap “Accessibility”, located a short distance down the menu on the left side of the page.
  3. Tap “Voice Control” on the list on the right side of the screen.
  4. Next, tap “Set Up Voice Control”, then tap Continue to start the file download. This download is fast and takes less than a minute.
  5. A small icon with a white microphone in a blue circle should appear at the top right of the status bar to indicate that “Voice Control” is turned on.

(Settings > Accessibility > Voice Control > Continue).

Note:  You can temporarily close or open Voice Control by saying, “Go to sleep” and “Wake up”. You can also use Siri to turn Voice Control on or off.

Now that Voice Control is activated, it is time to borrow a book from NNELS!
